In June 2007, the Company received an approvable letter from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for INTUNIV (guanfacine) extended release tablets (previously referred to as SPD503), a non-stimulant selective alpha-2A-receptor agonist. On November 7, 2007, Shire entered into a license agreement with Amicus Therapeutics, Inc. (Amicus), under which it received the rights to three compounds, PLICERA, AMIGAL and AT2220, in markets outside the United States. In April 2008, Shire announced the acquisition of arylsulfatase-A (ASA), an enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) in Phase I-II clinical trials for metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) from the Danish company, Zymenex A/S.
